For police, fire or medical emergencies, dial 911 and be sure to say yo are on Jekyll Island.

Police/Fire/EMT
The Georgia State Patrol provides police protection. Jekyll Island has its own fire department which is on call 24/7 for fire and medical emergencies. Residents and businesses support the fire department by paying a "fire fee" billed annually based on the assessed value of the property.

The Jekyll Island Authority (JIA) uses  Nixle  for emergency alerts and community notifications. Nixie allows the JIA to keep everyone who lives, works, and visits Jekyll Island informed in the most convenient and reliable way possible. Nixle is a timely, effective, reliable, and secure technology platform that connects communities. This platform is used by thousands of agencies throughout U.S. and will allow JIA to send important information on multiple platforms, including text message, e-mail, voice call, and online.

All Nixle messages will be coded into one of these categories.
1.Alert - most urgent message, life threatening situation (for example: evacuation order, active shooter, gas leak, bomb threat)
2.Advisory - a public safety situation (for example: boil water alert, road closure)
3.Community Information - local information, not life threatening (for example: fireworks notice, town hall meeting, road resurfacing)

To register for Nixle, go to www.jekyllisland.com/emergency and input your contact information. Be sure to enter 31527 for the zip code. Family and friends can register for JIA alerts by using your address.
