Jekyll Island Croquet Club

Playing competitive 6-Wicket Croquet has been likened to playing 'chess, billiards and war on a lawn'. The adept croquet player combines shot making skills with good tactics and strategy to control and win the match.

The Jekyll Island Croquet Club is a fully sanctioned club of the United States Croquet Association and the Croquet Foundation of America. All games are played in accordance with the rules of that organization. Membership in the JICC is $45 annually which includes membership to the USCA which provides a quarterly magazine and contact information for clubs nationwide. All members of the JICC must also join the Jekyll Island Hotel annually for access to their court.

The JICC currently meets Tuesdays for Six Wicket 'Club Play'. This venue allows the members to play with (and against) a variety of people of varying skill level. In addition, there is a registration board which allows players to schedule other games during the week. Non-members are encouraged to visit the club during play on Tuesday to learn more about the game. Members are always eager to explain what is happening in a match. Non-members can arrange introductory play as a guest of a member and can attend club play for an introductory peroid with no commitment required.

For those interested in playing a social, faster form of croquet, JICC members typically play Golf Croquet on Wednesdays from 3-5pm. Generally, golf croquet is more of a 'shooters game' with less focus on tactics. This event is open to anyone who would like to investigate the sport without committing to lessons or fees.

In addition to learning the game from club members on club play days, lessons for both Golf Croquet and Six Wicket Croquet are available through the Jekyll Island Arts Association in both the fall and winter classes. This has proven to be a very popular way to learn the game. For information, contact John Donohue or www.jekyllartsassociation.org
