A little known game of Machiavellian guile and raw cunning
awaits those who are adventurous enough to consider
CROQUET at the JekyllIsland Croquet Club. The Croquet Club plays every Tuesday on the
Greensward at the Jekyll Island Club Hotel. Croquet is not a game of genteel
play in Long Dresses and Silk Breeches; you will be surprised at the “Cut &
Thrust” which develops even among friends as they play.
The Croquet Club of
Jekyll Island is a fully sanctioned club of the United States Croquet
Association and the Croquet Foundation of America. All games are played in
accordance with the rules of that organization. Lessons are free, and all who
wish to learn this fascinating game are welcome.
Games are each Tuesday at the Croquet Court of the historic Jekyll Island
Club Hotel. Play starts at 1 pm in the autumn and winter and earlier at 8 am in
the spring and summer. Club members will also use the sign-up board at the Hotel
to schedule other games during the week.
The club plays the Six Wicket American game. At times the membership will
elect to play the International 13 Wicket game when visitors or club members
wish.
In December the club will host introductory lessons for free on three consecutive Wednesdays at the JI Club Hotel from 3 to 4 pm. See Calendar for details.
Membership
Membership in the Jekyll Island Croquet Club is open to full time and part
time residents of the island. Club members join by becoming members of the US
Croquet Association. The USCA membership fee is $45. Play at the Club Hotel also
requires a club membership fee which can be paid either annually or monthly.
