Jekyll Island Citizens Association
Citizen Association Issues & Activities
JICA is actively
involved with issues that affect island lessees and residents. The association
strives to preserve Jekyll Island as a unique, nature-rich, family-friendly
barrier island that complies with the state law requiring 65 percent of the
island to remain undeveloped. These issues include living conditions, fees,
taxes and the general preservation of Jekyll Island. JICA maintains constant
dialogue with the Jekyll Island Authority, Glynn County and the state
government. To keep all interested parties informed, a monthly "all-are-welcome"
meeting is held at the Convention Center, a quarterly Newsletter is published
and, for more timely notification of island events and issues, the "JICANET"
e-mail is distributed to an addressee list of more than 600. A major feature of
JICANET is the quick distribution of unofficial minutes of all JIA Board of
Directors meetings and JICA meetings.
JICA Board of Directors
The JICA Board of Directors consists of nine members elected to serve
three-year terms. Election of three new members is normally held in May followed
by a "Friendship Buffet."
JICA Meetings
Meetings are normally on the first Monday of the month, September through
May. Most meetings begin at 2 pm, although some each year are held at 7 pm to
accommodate those who work during the day. Notices of the meeting are sent out
on JICANET and are posted on Cable Channel 14.
JICANet
If something happens on Jekyll Island, or is about to happen, subscribers to
this e-mail service will learn of it in a timely fashion, usually within a day
of when JICA finds out about it. This is a free service. To subscribe, merely
send your e-mail address to the JICANet editor at
jica@jekyllcitizens.org.
