We have recently received a number of reports of non-receipt of JICJANet Updates by AT&T/BellSouth customers without them being “bounced” back to us.  In researching the problem with both our web hosts and AT&T, it appears that in the process of AT&T outsourcing its email (including BellSouth accounts) handling to Yahoo!, the more aggressive Yahoo! SPAM scanner was automatically activated for your account.  In addition, the JICANet acquired a “Spammer” label stemming from the fact that each of our JICANet transmissions involves a large number of addressees.  We are working on getting the Spammer label removed, but, in the meantime, there are some fixes that individuals can implement.

If you use the AT&T (formerly BellSouth) webmail to access your email via the Internet, you have probably already solved the problem after finding the JICANet Updates in your SPAM folder.  You were able to access them from that folder and move them to your Inbox or other locations.  Unfortunately, until we can get our "Spammer" label removed, your Updates will continue to be routed to your Spam box as long as you have the Yahoo! SpamGuard active.  If you wish, you can go to your webmail account settings and turn off the Yahoo! SpamGuard.

Those of you that use Outlook, Outlook Express, Safari or other email client and have not accessed your mail via AT&T webmail may not even be aware of its existence or how to access it.  Thus, you do not know that some of your incoming mail is being shortstopped by Yahoo! and being placed in your webmail Spam folder.  You need to access your AT&T webmail mailbox and take the actions discussed above to turn off filtering by the Yahoo! scanner if desired.  Any mail you move from the webmail Spam folder to the webmail Inbox will then appear in your Inbox the next time you access your email via your regular email client.

To access your webmail, go to www.att.net and click on the Mail icon.  You will be asked for your email username and password.  The first time you access your account you may be required to provide identifying information (that you would think they already had) and set up a couple security questions.  If you have trouble, AT&T technical support is helpful.  The number for DSL subscribers is 888-321-2375.
