Recycle: Bring cardboard, aluminum cans, newspaper, plastic bottles to the new and improved recycling center on Riverview Drive on the Southside.
Trash Collection on Jekyll Island Each residence is responsible for the purchase of a roll-out trash container. These have a 90-gallon capacity and are available for purchase from the Jekyll Island Authority. Household garbage should be contained in trash or paper bags and placed in the containers. Extra refuse should not be placed next to the container. The trash collection fee for one container is $47.60 bi-monthly and includes yard trash and garbage collection. For an additional $13 bi-monthly, JIA personnel will roll the container to and from the street. For inquiries about trash collection, call 635-4010.
Trash Collection Schedule: Monday: Albright, Austin, Barnes, Barron, Beachview, Bliss, Borden, Brice, Dexter, Ellis, Forrest, Gould, King, Lanier, Ogden, Nelson, Potter, Stewart, Tallu Fish, Thorne, Tyler. Tuesday: Baker, Bond, Capt. Wylly, Claflin, Clark, Glynn, Hayes, Howland, Hyde, Jennings, Macy, Magee, Maurice, Morgan, N. Riverview, Old Plantation, Pierson, Porter, St. Andrews. Holiday schedule: If a holiday falls on a Monday or Tuesday, the trash will be collected on the following day.
Incidental Trash and Large Trash Items: Incidental trash — objects weighing less than 25 pounds, such as lawn chairs, carpet scraps and broken appliances — will be collected on the same day as regular trash. Place the items beside (not inside) the roll-out trash container. This does not include construction materials. Larger items, such as stoves and refrigerators, will be picked up for a fee of $39 per pick-up truck load.
Yard Trash: Tree limbs, leaves, pine straw, clippings and other organic matter should not be placed in trash containers. Please pile this debris loose (not in bags) neatly on the road shoulder away from power lines and tree limbs.
