Three
churches sit along side Riverview Drive by the Jekyll Airport, but
there are five congregations that hold services in these buildings. The
United Methodist Church shares its facilities with St. Richard
Episcopal Mission, and the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. A
Southern Baptist Church and a Presbyterian Church are just down the
street.
For those of other faiths, Brunswick and St. Simons
Island offer many houses of worship. A few of these are listed here,
but check the Yellow Pages of the telephone directory for a great many
more.
One church on Jekyll Island that does not have regular
Sunday services is Faith Chapel in the Island's Historic District. The
chapel was built by members of the old millionaires' club in 1904. Its
stain glass windows and grotesques on the rafters inside are must sees
for anyone visiting the Island. The Chapel is open on most days from 2
to 4 pm. (If a wedding or wedding rehearsal is scheduled, the Chapel
will not be open.) The other churches on the Island, along with Friends
of Historic Jekyll Island, provide volunteers to sit in the Chapel
during visitors' hours.
